What an amazing clinic with brilliant, wonderful practitioners!! I am sharing space with one of my best friends and our room is so warm and inviting. We gave it a face lift with some paint and some warm red accents and it looks great! I feel so blessed to be part of such a wonderful group of people. There are so many knowledgable people at the clinic that I can refer my patients to, or even discuss difficult cases with. I know my patients will be recieving the best care at Elixia. Both from myself and the staff.

New Clinic, New Husband, New Bike!!

August has been quite a busy month (hence the lack of postings). The first week of August, I married the love of my life, here in Portland. Then the second week of August, I started in my new clinic, Elixia Wellness Group. The third week of August, Ellsworth sent me my new frame, painted in semi-custom Wildfire.

The wedding was amazing! Getting hitched went off without a hitch! My sister was the most amaizng maid of honor, she took care of everything. I think I was the calmest bride ever!! (She was the stress-ball). We got married in Portland at the World Forestry Center, it was an amazing venue. We had 120 of our closest friends and family with us. We are waiting on our honeymoon until it's winter here in Portland. We will be doing a mini- honeymoon on Bends Big Fat Tour. It's a 3 day mt. bike ride all over the Bend area. BBFT was our first date two years ago.

I also started at my new Clinic the next week. Elixia offers Chiropractic, Naturopath, Acupuncute, Massage Therapy, Psycology, and aesthetics. I am so excited to be part of this advanced group of physicians and therapists. We believe in a "whole person" approach to each patient. From the inside out and the outside in. My full schedule begins September 1st.

Then, last week I got my new Ellsworth Moment frame. So light and amazing!! The color is stellar! Anodized orange with subtle flames. I've been told there are only 4!! I can't wait to get it built up and start doing some more free-ride and super D races!!

Short track #2 = Second Place!!

Went out for my second short track race this year. I moved up one place! Got second in the womens pro field. I'm getting this whole 45 minutes of "as hard as you can go" thing figured out...slowly. This time I warmed up for a good 45 minutes, did some high intensity openers for about 5 minutes and tried to keep spinning around until about 5 minutes before the start. The last race I somehow got stuck out on the course during the race that was right before me and had to start cold. I didn't warm up until the last lap...not fun! This time I was pretty warm. I think I need to do a little more high intensity in my warm ups because I didn't feel "great" until about lap 3 (20 minutes into the race). My sister comes to all my races (best cheerleader ever!) and she says she can tell which lap I finally warm up in because I don't look like I'm dying! :)

Next Monday, we'll try some more high intensity for longer before the race and see how that goes. Sunday is the Fluid ride cup DH up at Ski bowl, so my legs will be pretty shot. Should be fun. Post to follow!

Finish

Hood River Super D

Last weekend was the Hood River Super D. I knew about it for awhile, and had been riding it with a group that was going to race it, but my sights were on the Downhill at Mt. Hood the day after the Super D race. But the more I rode the course, and thought about the technicalities of the Super D, it really sounded fun...and challenging. For those who don't know me, I'm a bit A-D-D and I am always looking for something different to try. I have raced the Mt. Hood Downhill for many years now, but had never raced the Hood River Super D.

First thing was to figure out which bike to race. It was an extra hard decision, because I had just fond out the week prior, that Ellsworth is sending out a small Moment, which would be the absolute perfect bike for this course!!

The course started out on a Motorcycle trail that was pummice with baby heads everywhere...definetly want your DH bike, then went into a super steep shoot with drops and rocks and roots and baby heads, yup...DH bike. The course then went out on the ridge and it was a fairly smooth, bermy single track with tons of flow, long travel trail bike here. Then....the UPHILL!! Open, exposed south facing, pummice, steep. Super light XC race bike for the next 5 minutes. Back up on the ridge, long trail bike here, down a newly made, very rocky, steep, drop off section...DH bike. Down a super steep shute, across the road and straight up a steep bank to hopefully "jump" back onto the trail. Once you got back on the trail...up we go!! XC bike here. Then gods country! The next 5 minutes of trail were open, smooth, fast, huge berms you can rail and know you will stick. Long travel trail bike. Well, I have two bikes...a full DH bike with 9" front and rear, or an XC race bike that's super light (with expensive, breakable parts). Hmmm...do I lose time on the down or the up. I rode the course on both bikes, and on the DH bike the uphills were so steep that I couldn't peddle, so I would be walking up the hills. Unacceptable in a race. On the XC bike, the uphills were cake, but the gnarly rock sections were a little sketchy with my steep head angle and little weeny XC tires. I decided that my best bet would be 2.2 tires with super thick sidewall on my XC bike. Worked like a charm! I actually passed the two girls that went off in front of me...on the uphill! With the big tires on the bike, I was able to have more control in the rocky sections.

I won the pro women's class with a time of 20.56. Fastest male time was about 15'. The winner of each field recieved a comp. entry to the Crankworx Garbonzo super D. Unfortunatley, it's 2 days after my wedding...next year! Can't wait for more Super D races! I will have my new Moment in about a week! Ellsworth is now the Velobella title sponsor, and I can't even begin to express how excited I am! Anyone who rides a bike can tell you that Ellsworth handcrafted bicycles are pretty much the bomb-diggity!! I had Dan send me a picture of the color and OH MY GOD! It's so fast! I decided to get a Moment, which is their Super D, long travel trail bike. It should get shipped next week, I can't wait to ride it. I'm having it shipped back to Spokane so I can have the local shop build it and the maiden voyage will be at Beacon, the local free ride area where I learned how to ride.

We were chatting with Dan last night about all the latest technology that Ellsworth bikes offer. The most exiting is their "center tracking" technology. Usually, with rear suspension, when the back shock compresses, it shortens the chain and changes your peddling. With Ellsworth, the bottom bracket actually shadows the rear wheel during activity. No change in peddling, no change in chain length, no loss of energy! Check out their website: www.ellsworthbikes.com

First Short track race

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/Sk4oTzclh7I/AAAAAAAAAKQ/yAu361rYKh4/s320/IMG_4491.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354261327682832306" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/Sk4oPOqCNmI/AAAAAAAAAKI/UZTde8tDy2k/s320/IMG_4502.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354261249087649378" />

I've decided this year to branch out and try more cycling disciplines. Portland has a great, local, Monday night short track series...so I thought.."What the hey?" I called my best cheerleaders (sister Laura and friend Cindy) and asked them if they wanted to check out the Portland International Raceway short track races. "SURE!!!" The best thing about the PIR short track is that about 50% of the track is on their motocross track...super FUN!! Woops and jumps and super bermed turns.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/Sk4oFfyp7OI/AAAAAAAAAKA/0Nznz5_mkA4/s320/IMG_4500.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354261081888517346" />
While I was checking out the course and chatting with my sister, a woman in a Velobella shirt came up and introduced herself. She said this was her first short track race ever and she had a blast! We exchanged pleasantries, chatted about biking and Velobella. Every time I am at a race wearing a kit, I always have someone come up to me and introduce themselves. They are either a fellow bella, or they know someone who is or was. It's so great!!

I didn't get a chance to warm up on the track, so I tried to get a good start so I could follow the people who knew the course. I started out in about 4th place in Pro/Open women, after about a minute, I passed 3rd and pretty much stayed in 3rd the whole time. Sue Butler was in first (she is an ANIMAL!! :) ) and Alice Pennington (another local animal) was in second. I was actually in 1st place for about 30 seconds when they missed a turn and I caught up to them and made the turn while they were backtracing on the course. They stayed in my sight for the first 4 laps, and then they were about a minute ahead of me. I had a very solid 3rd place the entire time. I was pretty stoked, and I was having a blast!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/Sk4oYrfqzyI/AAAAAAAAAKY/V8gJHCDVe4A/s320/IMG_4505.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354261411447623458" />
Still smiling, after the race!

4 Girls, 4 Bikes and a fat lip!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SiBj19RzBvI/AAAAAAAAAJc/SkwKViZjOt4/s320/221.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341378936694834930" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 121px; height: 95px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SiBh82NXl9I/AAAAAAAAAJU/ihs9F57qWZw/s320/stickter.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341376856033040338" />
Last weekend was amazing! I got together with some old race buddies I haven't seen in awhile and headed down to Black Rock Mountain Bike Area. I just recently discovered this free-ride gem, located about 20 minutes southwest of Salem. We started the day by loading up our bikes in the 4 door, long bed cummins dodge truck and headed out. A quick stop for a coffee and we were on our way. We arrived at the riding area, warm and SUNNY! Started peddling up the hill (on our DH bikes..not fun) and came to the skills park area. FUN Stuff!! So we get to the top, pick our trail and start down. We were taking turns leading, since none of us knew the trails. There are some pretty big stunts up there, so we were checking everything out before we would ride it. Well one of the girls was in the flow and rode off a bridge, but the bridge didn't connect. It was a 20' gap and 7' drop to the transition on the other side of the road. She didn't have enough speed to make the transition,but she had too much speed to stop so she did the only thing she could do....rode it and prayed! If she weren't such a skilled ride, she probably would have seriously hurt herself. Instead, she ended up with a fat lip, and a bruised chest and ego. :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SiBnQbyegmI/AAAAAAAAAJw/6h0QPq6CUOc/s320/sunday+stroll.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341382690096448098" />

I can't say enought about the condition of the trails out there! I swear they have little elves that go in front and behind you and rake them smooth. The berms are perfect, never blown out, all the stunts are made by an engineer perfectly measured and the transitions feel like you've never left the ground. We did a couple top to bottom runs, and then hung out in the skills park at the bottom for awhile playing around on the stunts. What a great day!! I can't wait to go back! There is a race this weekend, so I'm going to drive down and see what kind of free-ride racer I am!
Update to come!

Long overdue update

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SiBc64dhPWI/AAAAAAAAAJM/rWJT_nBti_s/s320/IMG_4157.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341371324719775074" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SiBcO1sgSiI/AAAAAAAAAJE/2VqWnImBGGQ/s320/IMG_4131.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341370568063076898" />

Where shall I start...the beginning. This year has started off pretty slow as far as racing. First, I had a pesky case of knee bursitis, then I had a very intense Yoga Teacher training program, then an abnormal mole which required stitches and 3 weeks of "taking it easy". So far I've had 4 weeks of normalcy. Is that a word? Normalcy? Anyway, End of April was a two day, double down ho down at Beacon, my local hill in Spokane. I'm pretty sure I'm undefeated at Beacon, there may have been a 2nd place in there years ago, but I'm not sure. Anyway...about the race. Saturday was the first course. This course was more jumps, berms and peddle sections. The conditions were pretty much perfect. No dust, tacky dirt, a little bit of sun during the day. Practice went great..especially since I had to take the number plate off my bike from last years race in August (I really didn't touch my bike for that long? Holy crap!). There were 3 women signed up for the Pro course. Both girls I was going against are phenomenal riders, so I wasn't sure how the race would go. With the delay in my season, and lack of riding I was pretty sure it wasn't going to go very well for me. I had a great, super clean run...and had a blast while I was racing!! I probably recognized all the voices that were cheering me on. Racing in your hometown is amazing! Results had just been posted and I was on my way up to check them when the race promoter came up to me and congratulated me! I was super stoked, I still had to go check because I didn't believe it! Yea, 1st place!! As I was heading back to the car to get some water, my boyfriend stopped me. We were both sitting on our bikes, I can't even remember what he said, something about "planning for the future etc etc" all I know is he was pulling a little black box out of his pocket and saying the words "will you marry me". HOLY CRAP! Of course! So, now the 1st place finish has taken a backseat to this new amazingness. But, there is still a race on Sunday to think about. I decided that a celebration dinner was in order and saved practice for the next morning before the race (something I hate to do). Sunday was not quite as nice as Saturday. We woke up to an inch of snow and really cold temperatures. I drug myself out of bed, put on my warm clothes and hoofed it up the hill. The Sunday course was much more technical then Saturdays course. There were a few new sections that were pretty hairy. They had already taken out a couple hands and collar bones the day before. I decided to check the line for a bit, then I rode it. It was scary, but rideable. Well, I ended up getting first again on Sunday, this time by default since both the other girls had headed home the night before. I'll take it! So that is the race season so far. Ride report to follow!

Bike/Car war

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/ScLR1dqHUDI/AAAAAAAAAIs/fdal2HpNz4E/s320/New+Image.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315041226675146802" />
What is it about almost getting hit, twice in as many minutes, that just makes my blood boil?? Oh yea, probably the fact that because someone was talking on the phone and not paying attention they almost KILLED ME! And worse, they almost wrecked my bike! I don't even want to know how many blogs out there that mirror what I'm saying. PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION!! I have like 8 lights in the front, 8 in the back, I wear RED, it's day time....I know you can see me.
Tuesday, I'm riding to work and I have an encounter with wet rail road tracks. The encounter did not go well, and my body is paying for it. The guy in the car behind me, who actually had to stop because I was in a pile in the middle of the street, just drove around me and didn't even stop to ask if I was ok. Then, yesterday, riding to work and some too-cool-for-school hipster high school chic thinks that it would be great to walk out into the street in front of me. She actually stops, looks right at me, eye contact and all, and steps out into the bike lane in front of me. I had some choice words that I whispered into her ear as I brushed by her. On the way home, at a stop light and some lady tries to turn left in front of me, of course since I'm on a bike, I must be going much slower than her in her car, even though I am moving and she is starting from a complete stop. At the last minute she finally stopped so she didn't hit me. As soon as my heart rate goes down, some guy turns left into a shopping center parking lot and misses my back wheel by about an inch. If I hadn't seen him coming and veered at the last second, I would be his hood ornament right now. He actually stopped and was very apologetic, but my boiling point had been reached. I was so mad that all I could think of was to yell.."YOU need to watch where you're going!!!"
I wanted to ride again today because the weather is so nice, but I don't think my stress level has gone down enough yet. Today, a nice, safe run in the woods.
That is my rant.

Now What?! Oh yea, training....

It's definitely been awhile since I've updated a post. Been super busy, so I have an excuse. I just finished my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training, and am now a registered yoga teacher. I will teach my first class next Wednesday at the local bouldering gym. I plan to host some free classes at the clinic for patients and offer one-on-one classes as soon as I find a space. I am also enrolled in the advanced Teacher Training extensions program which starts tomorrow, but it is only 8 weeks long and once a week. I am also talking with a local bike shop about co-sponsoring a cycling team. So far it is an all male team, but I'm trying to change that. The practice is getting busy, I have recently joined a few more insurance panels and have been receiving quite a few MD referals.
Now that I am done with the intense yoga program, I can bring my focus back to training for cycling this year. Training resumes today. If it would just stop being so damn cold and not appealing to ride!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://drsarajohnson.blogspot.com/2009/03/now-what-oh-yea-training.html' title='Now What?! Thank god for that because I was going NUTS! I think I was driving everyone else nuts too! Forced myself to take it easy, did my rehab exercises, treated myself at the clinic and I think I licked the knee issue. Basically what happened is I sat on my butt for too long, trudged around in boots with no arch support and then went to the bouldering gym and kept jumping down the problems instead of down climbing them. I am a huge pronator, so the knees were already angry from spending so much time in shoes with no support and the jumping gave me an acute case of jumpers knee, in BOTH knees. I treated them with massage, muscle stim, ultra sound and kinesio tape. Oh, and LOTS of hot baths in epson salt. Went for a ride Thursday, the IT band was a bit tight so I felt a little pain on the outside of my knee, but the problem area (pes anserine bursa) felt good on both knees. Yea! Did some inverted bicycles when I got home to pump out any inflamation and put stim on both knees when I got to the clinic. Kinesio tape to allow the tissue to drain from any residual inflamation. And now, they are BACK! I also ordered some orthotics. Two reasons, one to stop the pronation when I walk, and two becasue studies have shown that people who cycle and pronate actually put out more power per stroke if they have orthotics in their bike shoes. So, going on a group ride today and I am pretty confident that I can FINALLY start my training for the year.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Dangit dangit dangit! My damn knees are hurting again. I thought maybe, just maybe that I would get off easy with this one. Nope.. After my ride on Tuesday they were a little achey, and then yesterday they were definetely worse. So, I guess the now I will just have to suck it up and rest until they are totally 100% so I don't have to deal with this issue all season long. Sucks tho because I see everyone else out there training and I'm just sitting on the couch playing the stupid xbox wishing I could be out riding. Sooo frustrating! I've been treating myself in the clinic every other day and that is helping, I will start doing some re-hab strengthening exercises next week and hopefully (HOPEFULLY) I will be back on the bike in two weeks. I forgot how boring it is keeping your heart rate low. I had a head wind right off the get-go and had to peddle sloooooowly...painfully sloooooooow. I really had to stay focused to keep the pace in my base training range, especially after training at such high intensity for cross. Felt pretty good tho. Did about and hour and a half on the bike and will be doing some hot yoga tonight. The knee didn't trouble me too much. I noticed if I really focus on my peddle stroke and don't get sloppy I feel less pain under the knee cap. The yoga tonight will really help the knee too. Last year I ended up building up some scar tissue and just got "tight" all over. My goal this year is to do Yoga at least 2x per week to really keep limber. I was off the bike for a couple months really focusing on getting my range of motion back in my hips and shoulders.

Training starts today: Updates to follow.

Going out for my first training ride in, oh I'd say at least 1 and a half months. Probably the longest "rest" I've ever taken between seasons. I sure needed it though. With cross this year, it was a long season for me. The typical downhill season is June through September. I raced from early March to November this year. I came to the point where I didn't even want to ride my bike. I had to "ground" myself from the bike until I actually wanted to ride it again. Well, today is crappy and dark and I could have slept in, but instead I am tuning up the training bike and going for a ride.

Not just top 5, but top 3!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQ_qNG_q6wI/AAAAAAAAAGw/rv3WzyIUzdc/s320/24.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264684000356264706" />

Well I was striving for top 5 this weekend, and I made it! I ended up 3rd! It was a great race, and a very lucky race! Portland finally showed us what it's famous for...lots of rain and mud. The course was at Barton park in Estacada Oregon. It's a nice little picnic area on the Clackamas river. Most of the course wound it's way through a gravel pit above the park, and then wound into the paved parking area. I wasn't sure how I would do in this race. There was quite a bit of all out sprinting and not too much technical stuff. Plus it was my first muddy cross race. We had a nice clearing in the rain for our start. Had a pretty good warm up, and we didn't have to wait at the start line for too long. I had a decent start, not amazing, but definetly not as bad as usual. I'm finally learning some of the tactics. I hung out in about 7th for the first lap, then passed a couple people on one of the open paved sprint sections. For the next 3 laps I battled back and forth from 4th to 7th. The last lap was the lucky part of the race. There was one run up that was actually rideable if you got a good run at it and no one was in your way. I was hanging out in 3rd or 4th and was accelerating up to the little hill to ride up it, right as I got to the bottom, two other girls were off their bikes getting ready to run up it and just converged on my line. Bummer, I jump off my bike totally expecting the other A women (who were smart and took it wide) to pass me on the outside while I ran up behind the two beginner women. Well, by some dumb luck, the girls moved over enough to let me through the inside line and I ended up on top in front of the other girls in my class. I held my spot to the next area where the clusters usually happened. It was rideable, but only if you had a clean line. One of the girls I was battling with, came up on my outside and I had a beginner girl in front of me on the inside. So, jump off my bike to run around, fully expecting to get passed. Once again, the "waters parted" and I ran right through and was still in front of the pack. It was the last lap, with only an open sprint and one more barrier to the finish. I gave it what I had, hoping the other girls were suffering like I was. Came up to the last barrier (it was HUGE by the way)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQ_omhG3B6I/AAAAAAAAAGg/3iV2uHhkEAQ/s320/cross.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264682237839214498" />
jumped over it, got back on my bike neck and neck with 4th place. We were both struggling to get back in our peddles with the finish line only 25 feet away.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQ_qalzSn0I/AAAAAAAAAG4/t7NULjdRjNI/s320/23.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264684231964139330" />
By pure luck I got into my peddles just before she did and secured my 3rd place finish. Tons of fun! Although I'm still picking dirt out of my eyes. Next weekend, PIR.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQ_p77appHI/AAAAAAAAAGo/f4iGNnLtZD8/s320/14.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264683705190425714" />
Can you tell I'm a downhiller??

Top 10!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQz6ZqzDyOI/AAAAAAAAAF8/4pIZDVgsXtU/s320/IMG_1967.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263857383381387490" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQz520yfWZI/AAAAAAAAAF0/vrqNEezPSkY/s320/101_0227.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263856784767932818" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQz5lG6KMLI/AAAAAAAAAFs/d_HfDjWKIEk/s320/IMG_2704.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263856480394293426" />

Broke into the top ten this weekend. Almost broke into the top 5, but alas, I got 6th on sunday. So close....no cigar. The race on Sunday was super fun. Felt waaaay better than I did on Saturday. Full nights' sleep, lots of good food and plenty of water. My teammate Carrie, and I dressed up as cats for the race.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQz5YWAVCJI/AAAAAAAAAFk/_2X618aiKtE/s320/IMG_2682.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263856261108402322" />
I wasn't sure how dressed up people got, so I kept mine right in the middle. People got waaaay dressed up! Lots of male cheerleaders, TRON, a couple Sarah Palins, a teenage mutant ninja turtle, the cast of Team America, and a whole bunch more I can't mention.
They used pretty much the same course on Sunday as they did on Saturday, they just flipped it around. There were two semi decent climbs in the course on Sunday. I always thought climbing was my weakness, but I felt strong and was able to pass people on the climbs. Now, jumping off my bike and getting my 30" inseam legs to jump over 24" barriers, THAT is my weakness. I pretty much suck at that. I spent all this week practicing mounts and dismounts. I'm getting better, but I could still be waaay faster. The barriers is where I got passed. Then I would have to power it to catch up. Tomorrow is the Barton park race. I hear it's pretty much gravel and sand, not too much mud, which is good because it started raining here. My goal for the next 3 cross crusade races it to break into the top 5. I'm pretty sure I can stay in the top 10, but the top 5 is gonna be hard.

5 girls, 4 dogs, 2 bikes and a 1/2 pound cheesburger.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQSifuyHldI/AAAAAAAAAFA/3Gdmtr2-n-c/s320/101_0045.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261508930693469650" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQSiFbf3SOI/AAAAAAAAAE4/dLltxP5wOLk/s320/101_0029.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261508478840031458" />
Holy crap! That HURT! Do not...I repeat, DO NOT go booty dancin' with married women the day before a race. No bueno! We decided that friday night was going to be girls night out, and then had the brilliant idea to race cross on saturday. It was a hard wake up, I knew the race wasn't going to go that well. My teammate Carrie and I left Portland about 9:30, my sister, two of her friends and their pack of canines left Portland around 10:30. Carrie and I got to Astoria with about 1 and 1/2 hours to spare. Time for registration, quick check of the course and lots of water consumption! Cross Crusade changed their start format, so I actually got called to line up. Pretty cool hearing my name called. Now for the race. After the first lap, I started seeing double and couldn't focus on the course (sometimes I stroke out when I'm riding hard)...so that sucked. I couldn't really see the course, so I would just tuck in behind someone who was going a pace I could keep up with and just stayed on their wheel. Couldn't really pass anyone because I couldn't see the course. This course had some pretty long hill climbs, more than what I expected for a course at a fairgrounds. We did get to go through all the barns tho, allll of the barns. :)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQSitTxhTAI/AAAAAAAAAFI/2cIKj2smi4A/s320/101_0077.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261509163961371650" />
This was a race of survival, not a race for placing. I'm pretty stoked I stayed in the whole race tho. Usually I don't get double vision until the very end of a race. Well, I ended up 9th, not too bad, but not what I was hoping for. After the race, the girls and I went back to the hotel and freshened up, then went to the beach. We checked out the shipwreck at Fort Stevens. It was beautiful, we got there right around sunset.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQSj2qSp5OI/AAAAAAAAAFY/_F-m_0HLeVs/s320/IMG_2655.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261510424136377570" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQSjbKmw-FI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/30DdfcbIyPQ/s320/IMG_2649.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261509951774324818" />
Came back, drove over the long bridge, made fun of my sister because she is scared of heights (I know, not nice, very childish...but her reactions are worth it!). Went out to the local pub for some karaoke...good stuff. Doing it all again today! Weather is perfect so far, no clouds, no fog, crisp and cool!

Bikes, dogs and friends

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQD71UpsFaI/AAAAAAAAAEw/rjQXHlWFbwc/s320/IMG_2597.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5260481258263942562" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQD7gIncZMI/AAAAAAAAAEo/fggRZbuq-lo/s320/IMG_2612.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5260480894256047298" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQD7SemH3rI/AAAAAAAAAEg/QggvTTMHNFU/s320/IMG_2609.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5260480659637919410" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SQD7Ef3P9MI/AAAAAAAAAEY/ghyWnCzU9X8/s320/IMG_2582.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5260480419460019394" />
I should be writing a race report right now, but I didn't race. It was soo perfect outside that I went for a mountain bike ride. Can you blame me? Besides...you get two freebies in the series. We went out to Hood River and rode Gumjuwac, yet another great trail that I hadn't experienced until now. It was an amazing day! The veiws of mt. Hood were gorgeous. The trail is your typical Hood River trail. Straight up, and then straight down. Well, not really straight up...but after hour 2 of continued climbing, it feels like straight up. The climb up is on an old forest road, that doubles as a cross country ski trail in the winter. We ended up catching the single track up on the ridge. We rode single track up the ridge, down the ridge, across the ridge, and then finally had about an 8 mile super fun, super fast, super smooth decent back to the car. The dirt was amazing...super tacky, no dust, no mud. I'm glad I'm not writing a race report right now!!

It's like a powder day on the bike!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SPzd53qVO1I/AAAAAAAAAEI/prRm4S62FKo/s320/IMG_2505.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259322451125680978" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SPzc1MjatoI/AAAAAAAAAEA/XVHxuFjFUFE/s320/IMG_2553.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259321271322850946" />

Usually in the northwest, you aren't quite sure what mother nature is going to send your way in the name of weather. The last two weekends here have been absoultely perfect fall days!! Like a powder day...but on your bike. Last weekend we got a goup together and rode the Falls Creek trail, right outside of Carsen Washington. I hadn't ever been on that trail before, but I sure will ride it again. Conditions were perfect. No dust, no mud...just super grippy dirt. Not too cold, not too warm, sunny, slight breeze...I could go on. The trail itself starts in a creek valley and climbs steadily for about 16 miles. The climb isn't bad except for a couple steep pitches...that are totally rideable, just as long as you don't mind bustin' a lung.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SPzefLuYPZI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/6WC7n9XPHR8/s320/IMG_2519.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259323092166524306" />

The trail winds through a manicured, open forest blanketed with ferns, then up into a subalpine meadow/wetland, then higher yet into some granite scree fields. About halfway up the trail there is a huge lava tube. It's basically a big hole in the ground.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SPzcAr5UqYI/AAAAAAAAADw/jivVL4tjW-g/s320/IMG_2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259320369203161474" />

The trail is just outside Mt. St. Helens, so there is evidence of volcanic activity at various points along the trial . Pretty cool stuff. The best part of this trail is that you turn around and get 16 miles of some of the best downhill around. Big ring, and spinnin out! After 6 hours of riding, we got back to the car just before the sunset. I took this picture at the trail head. The light on the leaves and the water was perfect. Such a great day~!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SPzcYsQ3EqI/AAAAAAAAAD4/jFPrfDgiaJY/s320/IMG_2556.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259320781618746018" />

Cross Crusade #2

Well, I just raced my first cross crusade race...and I raced it as an A! Talk about crazy! Soo many people not just racing, but spectating too. The line up was crazy! 30 women in the A's alone. I'm not even sure how many total women were racing. Luckily, the A's get to go up to the front of the line. Since it was my first race, I hung back and started in the second line. It was a horrible start, every hole I saw would close up right as I started to take it. So, I was about 20 back in the beginning. The race course was pretty fast and open in the beginning. Then they had us go up some huge mound of clay that had turned to concrete after the rain the night before. That was interesting to say the least! Coming down off the mound there were basically three tracks, and you picked one and were committed until you hit the bottom. Midway down, some girl went a*& over tea kettle right in front of me. Thankfully she was ok, and I missed running over her by a couple inches. So now I'm in like 19th place??? Well, I just kept a good pace, tucked in behind some girl that looked like she knew what she was doing and just started passing people one by one. I ended up in 5th or 6th with 1.5 laps to go. Then I did what I NEVER do and I crashed! Damn! I actually went down twice in the same 180 degree sucky gravel corner, but the first time I got my foot out and basically just tapped the ground and bounced back into my peddle and started riding again. The next time around, not so lucky. I didn't get my foot out and I went down....hard. Ouch, I left a bit of thigh, butt and elbow skin on that course. Didn't rip my pretty shorts tho...yay for that! :) Well, the crash also rammed my derailer into my spokes and twisted my shifter/brake levers so that my brakes were stuck on. While I was yanking the derailer out of my spokes, and twisting the levers back to semi straight, 5 girls passed me. Damn again. I tried to catch them the whole rest of the race, but my bike was basically a single speed and I was stuck in the drops the whole time because the bars twisted. I couldn't pass them, but I also didn't let anyone else get by me. I ended up 11th out of 30. Which, for my first major cross race, I think is pretty good. Next weekend there is another one up in Washington. Got my bike all fixed up, got my new sweet 1600gram triple spoked wheel set from FSA (www.fullspeedahead.com) and I'm ready to go. Making a whirlwind trip to Spokane friday night after work, visit babies and eek a quick ride in saturday and then drive to the race sight in Western Washington (a mere 6 hr drive) Sunday morning and race again. If nothing else I'll be nice and rested from 6 hours of forced sitting. Pictures to come!

What could be better than this???

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SO0HoLj81bI/AAAAAAAAADY/3-zpTyVLTxc/s320/IMG_2471.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254864727090976178" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SO0GM5GQG_I/AAAAAAAAADQ/72HqvWFRL_8/s320/IMG_2409.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254863158766476274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SO0FMyguZLI/AAAAAAAAADI/kQOgowwOczA/s320/IMG_2399.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254862057486836914" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SOwGgRYAR8I/AAAAAAAAADA/sCWvuozRNqw/s320/trail1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254582016724191170" />
A weekend, in North Central Washington, in October, on my motorcycle, with my favorite dudes? Not much could be better really. We drove up to Entiat, which is just outside of Wenatchee washington, Friday night. Torrential downpour, couldn't see a thing! Pulled into camp around midnight, still pouring. We slept in the back of a Volkswagon jetta with two 70 pound dogs instead of setting up the tent, that's how hard it was raining. Saturday morning, it was still raining. Great...I hate riding in the rain! After sitting by the fire, drinking lots and lots of coffee, about noon the sky opened up and we got a break from the rain. Alright, get your gear on! Let's ride!! Hopped on the bikes and took off on a trail right out of camp. We rode some great single track, and the fall colors were amazing! <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SOwCyXQFP1I/AAAAAAAAACg/ua3w5yJ3Yl0/s320/klone+peak.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254577929492709202" />
We rode a good 3 hours that day, ended up getting stuck in a downpour most of the way back to camp, but had a great ride anyway. Sunday we woke up and it was gorgeous outside, blue sky and warm. We headed up the mad river trail, tommy trails area north of Leavenworth. Best single track around!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SOwEf7fLviI/AAAAAAAAACo/JWG0U5azUUA/s320/colors.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254579811825466914" />

We ended up riding for 5 hours Sunday. Started in Sunshine, got into snow,

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SOwFHttpOII/AAAAAAAAACw/2lu_JUxLtf0/s320/trail2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254580495322790018" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SOwF-x4walI/AAAAAAAAAC4/jGSOpFcsgq8/s320/snow.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254581441335945810" /> a little rain, some fog, and then back to sunshine when we got back to camp. The last trail we came down was "experts only" super tight switchbacks, drop offs,

and on the brakes the whole time...I loved every minute of it!! I mean what can be better than a weekend of riding dirtbikes with your dad and his dirtbike buddies??

Battle at Barlow

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SOKQC1tfAWI/AAAAAAAAACQ/2ruyNQjmT4E/s320/IMG_9391_1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251918493919412578" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SOKQDJkurfI/AAAAAAAAACY/2YWdZrF4Knw/s320/IMG_9483_1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251918499251400178" />
So this weekend was my first inaugural actual for real Portland cyclocross race. Last weekend was Hood river, and I had done one cross race in Seattle last year. I've decided I like this thing called cyclocross. I'm not sure if it's my fancy new bike, or my awesome Cheerleaders, or my cute pink and blue kit, or the fact that it's in Portland so there is no traveling, or the fact that I still haven't felt like my breakfast is going to be all over my jersey by lap two, maybe it's all of these factors. Anyway...big fan. This race was the Battle at Barlow. Super fun course at a Highschool out in Troutdale/Gresham area. The majority of the course was pretty flat, starting in the baseball field, through the parking lot, into the soccer field, down to a creek, up some GINORMOUS railroad tie stairs, through an orchard, back into the forest for some more fast, twisty single track and then back into the baseball field. I raced the Women's B class again because I knew there would be a bunch more women at this race than there were at the Hood River race. I ended up getting 1st place. I was the only B to do 6 laps, all the rest did 5 or less. I am officially an A now. Sweet!! Although, I have a feeling that at the next race I'm going to have my breakfast all over my jersey. ;) Next weekend is the first cross crusade race. I'll be in Central Washington riding my dirtbike all weekend, but I'll be at the cross crusade #2 the following weekend. Cross crusade is the biggest cross series in the US. This should be interesting......

Hood River Double Cross

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SNmCSCIqONI/AAAAAAAAABo/VA0-RdWX8LQ/s320/s517209537_881065_4819.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249370086999472338" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SNmCOWXQF7I/AAAAAAAAABg/K9flzYWESR0/s320/s517209537_881059_2895.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249370023709906866" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SNltjA7VwBI/AAAAAAAAABY/3NxOHM42G-Y/s320/n517209537_881061_3540.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249347288988762130" />
Well, first cross race of the season. Really, only the second cross race ever for me. Super FUN! Called up my sister Saturday night and conned her into being my cheering section. She and two of her friends and their furry friends showed up. I had the best cheering section of anybody! By the end of the race, everyone was cheering for me because my cheering section was having so much fun!
This was the debut of my brand new cross bike. I have the Kona Queen Anne, Velobella team bike. Size extra-super duper small, PERFECT! The bike has the best parts available! EA90 carbon fork, carbon bars, carbon seat post, Easton stem, and the SRAM Rival component kit. The bike practically floats it's so light. And...it has pink bar tape!
About the race: The course was pretty fun. Had some single track, which is always a plus in my book. I had a pretty good start, I was #4 in the line of girls. By the end of the first lap, I was #3. Second lap, I came to the single track and saw the girl in front of me hesitating, and I took full advantage. I passed her and took off. I felt very strong in the run-ups, I guess all the trail running at Powell Butte paid off. By the last lap I had passed all 4 girls I started with. I didn't even know that the race was over, I was getting ready to do another round when they yelled and told me the race was over. Good stuff!! I remember the one race I did last year, I wanted to puke the whole time. This time, I felt strong and good the whole time! Must be the new bike! My goal is to race, and place in the USGP in Portland in December. The rest of the Velobella team will be up here, so there will be tons of great energy surrounding that race. Well, now to run/ride/yoga for the week until the Battle at Barlow this weekend!

Oregon State Champion!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SKnltoN5X-I/AAAAAAAAAAs/RT5Y7gUl13I/s320/IMG_2131.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235968613847490530" />
This weekend was the Oregon state championships at Willamette pass. It was a great weekend...we got out of portland right before we melted!! Drove down to Willamette pass friday night, got in around midnight, set up camp and snoozed in the cool mountain air (verses the 100 degree portland air). Wonderful I say! Saturday morning, woke up, fried up some juevos and queso, packed up the bikes and hit the slopes. They changed the course on us again. The pro/expert course was steeper and more blown out this time, but they took out most of the big drops. Overall this course was easier, but you had to be able to keep it together in the steep, rutted out sections. Saturday I rode the sport course for fun and to check it out. Not as steep but just as blown out. Then practiced the pro/expert course. Holy crap was it HOT!! It was gondola access, so you sat in a hot box in full gear for 20 minutes. Luckily we were camped right on the lake. So, straight back to the campspot for some sun, some swimming and some cervezas!
Race morning came waay to early. It was a pretty warm night so I didn't sleep very well. No fans in the mountains. Did a practice run, man do those hurt! Working out all the lactic acid in your hands from the day before...ouch! The race format was best time out of two runs. My first run went....well it went. :) I forgot how to ride my bike on the top part...fell over and got stuck to my bike because I couldn't get clipped out. But the bottom part I was rockin'. Had a decent time, but I knew I could go faster. So the next run...I decided to take it a little easier in the top section. I actually had a great, fast run in the top section so I decided to push it a little more in the bottom section. I rocked it! What a great feeling! I ended up shaving 11 seconds off my time. It was a great feeling. I haven't been racing, or even riding my bike half as much as I used to because I have been in the midst of starting my chiropractic practice. It's nice to know I can still pull some stuff out when I need to. Couple more downhill races this season, then it's off to cross season. That should make for some interesting stories!! Stay tune!!!

Willamette #2

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SJc8-cAMdGI/AAAAAAAAAAc/_twKm4SdAWk/s320/IMG_2076.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5230716535580685410" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SJc8-xEy9SI/AAAAAAAAAAk/12udxZ1yHqQ/s320/IMG_2092.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5230716541237130530" />
My sister and I drove down to southern Oregon this weekend to compete in the second race of the Willamette pass DH series. Neither of us had ever been there before, but you can bet your butt we will be going back!! The area was absolutely beautiful, and the course was awesome!! Tight, twisty, steep, loose, roots, rocks, drops, jumps, and lots and lots of DUST! This was definetly your central oregon loose, dusty dirt.
We started practice about 2:00 and made 4 runs. My bike was a little bouncy the first run, and I realized that my brakes were "normal"...I run moto style. So I took some air out of my fork, added some air to my rear shock, tweaked the compression for my weight and switched my brakes and then....it was LOVE! It usually takes awhile for me to get used to a new bike, but 2 runs on this and it was like I'd been riding it all season. Race morning we got up to do a practice run. That pretty much sucked! The first run of the day is about pumping out all of the lactic acid that built up the day before. My hands felt like they were going to fall off and I couldn't peddle to save my life. But..the warm up worked and race run I felt great! Had one "fall over" from trying to cut a washed out corner, but othewise had a great run. My sister also had a great run. We ended up with me getting 1st and her second. Go SISTERS!!
Next weekend...providing medical at the seaside volley ball tournament.

Off to the races...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SJODbd--NNI/AAAAAAAAAAU/hkkeTQX96Y4/s320/IMG_1749.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5229668100235736274" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_rkzLkhGwN_k/SJODLQnt47I/AAAAAAAAAAM/cgn73Q3S0jU/s320/IMG_1710.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5229667821770630066" />
Well...I'm off to the races this weekend. Pretty exciting, since I will be riding my brandy new DH bike. I just finished (am still tweaking) building my Iron Horse Sunday World Cup. Let me tell you...this bike is bad a#$!! Sram hooked the bella DH squad up with the sweet Rock Shox Boxxer World Cup and a full X.O group with Code 4 piston brakes. When I want to stop...I STOP!....well the bike stops anyway..sometimes I keep going. Stans build us a super light wheel set, bella blue hubs and all, with Maxxis tubeless DH tires. My wonderful friend/mechanic Brian has been there from incecption. For those of you who were there, Mr. Brian was crucial in the high placings of the cross bellas at the Portland USGP last year. He was our mechanic/bike swapper/bike washer/all around great guy extrordinaire. YAY BRIAN!!
So, the sister and I are leaving tomorrow to go race in South western oregon. Always a good time with the Johnson sisters and a couple of bikes. I hear the course is technical and fun...I'm sooo looking forward to it. Work has calmed down just enough that I can finally do a couple race trips. Packing tonight, will be on my bike by noon tomorrow....updates to follow!!!
